Declaring an Allied Health Sciences Major (FAQ)
Who declares an Allied Health Science major?
- Students who are unsure of their major but are interested in pursuing a career in Allied Health may choose to become an Allied Health Sciences major (AHS). AHS students work with advisors in the Allied Health Sciences Academic Advising Office to explore career options and decide on a major.
- Students seeking employment in the Health Care system.
- Students pursuing the Allied Health Sciences major as a baccalaureate program for admission to graduate health programs. Students may declare a concentration in Health Sciences, Health Promotion Sciences, or Occupational Saftey and Health to further define their major.
- Students pursuing a professional program declare themselves an AHS major during their first 3 semesters at UConn. Students are advised by an advisor in the AHS Advising Center who assists them in course selection and planning for admission to a professional program (Admission to a professional program is not guaranteed).
How do I declare an Allied Health Science major?
Admission to the Allied Health Sciences (AHS) major does not require a supplemental application. However, students must complete a change of major form and submit supporting documentation as indicated below.
If you are a current UConn student in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, you must:
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and be in good academic standing
- Submit the following to the Department of Allied Health Sciences:
- Major/Advisor change form. Please click here.
- Unofficial UConn transcript (print from Peoplesoft)
- Personal Statement of intent (why you want to declare this major and how it fits into your career goals)
- Meet with an Allied Health Sciences Academic Advisor to review your career goals and academic interests click here
If you are a current UConn student in a School or College other than the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, you must:
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and be in good academic standing
- Submit the following to the Department of Allied Health Sciences:
- School/Major/Advisor change form. Please click here.

- Personal Statement of intent (why you want to declare this major and how it fits into your career goals)
- Meet with an Allied Health Sciences Academic Advisor to review your career goals and academic interests click here
If you are NOT a current UConn student, you must:
- First be admissible to UConn. Click here to access the admissions website. Declaration of this major is part of the university admission process.

How do I declare a concentration?
To declare a concentration in Health Sciences, Health Promotion Sciences, or Occupational Saftey and Health within the Allied Health Sciences major, a student must:
- Be an Allied Health Sciences major or be eligible for admission to the Allied Health Sciences major
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.2 and be in good academic standing
- Completed at least one each: 1000-level college Biology, Chemistry and Math course
- Submit the following to the Department of Allied Health Sciences:
