General Education Requirements

To satisfy the General Education Requirements, courses must be selected from the General Education Menu as listed in the University Catalog.
Guaranteed Admission to the Diagnostic Genetic Sciences Program
Although freshmen are not admitted directly into the Diagnostic Genetic Sciences Program, there is a Guaranteed Admission program. This program provides freshmen with direct admission to the Diagnostic Genetic Sciences Program if the student fulfills the criteria described below.

In order to qualify for Guaranteed Admission to the Diagnostic Genetic Sciences Program a student must:
  • Have entered the University of Connecticut as a freshman
  • Apply to the Diagnostic Genetic Sciences Program within two years of their freshman admission
  • Complete 3 successive semesters of full time study of required coursework at the University of Connecticut
  • Earn an Overall Grade Point Average of a minimum of a 3.2.
  • Meet all Admission Requirements and file a Department of Allied Health Sciences Application by the February 1st deadline

Students meeting all of these criteria are guaranteed admission to the Diagnostic Genetic Sciences Program. Guaranteed Admission does not guarantee the student will be admitted to their first choice of concentration option (cytogenetics or molecular diagnostics). This is done on a competitive basis.

University of Connecticut students who do not meet the Guaranteed Admission criteria will be reviewed competitively on a space available basis, Transfer and certificate applicants will be reviewed on a space available basis once matriculated University of Connecticut students have been reviewed and offers of admission have been confirmed.
