Program Director, Diagnostic Genetic Sciences Programs, September 1991 - Present

Administer and coordinate an upper division baccalaureate degree program  and post-baccalaureate certificate program in diagnostic genetic sciences with concentrations in cytogenetics and molecular diagnostics. Develop and implement the Program curricula. Develop and teach lecture, laboratory, independent study, and seminar courses. Schedule DGS classes. Coordinate placement of students in affiliate laboratories and oversee their clinical rotations. Advise DGS and Allied Health Sciences students.Perform clinical site visits. Maintain NAACLS accreditation for the cytogenetics and molecular diagnostics concentrations. Chair DGS Admissions Committee and DGS Advisory Board. Develop and oversee program budget. Serve on College and University committees.

Supervisor, June 1987 - August 1991

Coordinated the functions of a full-service cytogenetics laboratory processing 1200 samples annually. Supervised 7 full-time technologists, a work-study student and a varying number of Community Interns and volunteers from local universities and colleges. Prepared and managed a $350,000 budget. Interviewed, hired and trained personnel. Performed job evaluations and prepared performance programs. Developed work schedules and oversaw the workflow of the laboratory. Established and implemented Quality Assurance measures for the Division. Served on Laboratory and University Committees.

Assistant Supervisor, September 1986 - June 1987.
In addition to the general duties of a staff technologist, performed billing for the Division and fulfilled the responsibilities of the Supervisor in his absence.

Cytogenetic Technologist, April 1985 - September 1986.
Established, maintained and harvested cell cultures for bone marrow, solid tissue, amniotic fluid and peripheral blood samples. Prepared, stained, microscopically analyzed and photographed metaphase spreads. Performed Fragile X and prophase studies and special staining techniques. Developed and printed photographic negatives, and cut karyotypes.

MEDICAL CENTER HOSPITAL OF VERMONT, Burlington, VT 05401

Education Coordinator, School of Cytotechnology, July 1979 - July 1984.
Administered and coordinated a 12 - month certificate program in cytotechnology. Developed and implemented the course curriculum. Established and conducted the admissions process. Developed recruitment materials and strategies. Taught by means of lectures, discussions, kodachrome and microscopic sessions. Counseled students in academic, career and personal matters. Conducted alumni affairs. Supervised staff technologists in their interfaces with the School. Coordinated a weekly in-service education program.

Lectured to medical technology and radiologic technology students.


EASTERN MAINE MEDICAL CENTER, Cytology Department, Bangor, ME 04401

Supervisor, August 1977 - June 1979.
Coordinated the cytology services of a 400 - bed regional hospital. Supervised 3 full-time staff cytotechnologists, 3 cytopreparatory assistants and the cytology secretary. Interviewed, hired and trained new personnel. Performed job evaluations and recommended promotion and discipline of employees. Prepared work schedules. Re-screened all abnormal cases.

Cytotechnologist, June 1976 - August 1977.
Examined cytologic material from all body sites on a daily basis. Prepared and stained cytologic material on a rotational basis.
