Clinical Training, Medical Technology Program
All clinical training is done at the Hartford Hospital School of Allied Health Clinical Laboratory Education and Phlebotomy Programs and one of several clinical affiliates in Connecticut or Springfield, Massachusetts.

Students spend 1 day per week during the semester prior to their clinical training at Hartford Hospital. The entire senior year (July through June) is spent off campus at Hartford Hospital and one of the clinical affiliates. For those students starting clinical in the spring semester, the senior year will start in January and finish in December.

The first seven months of the senior year are spent in “student lab” in lecture and laboratory at Hartford Hospital. Here students learn both the theory and practical applications of laboratory testing. Mornings are spent in lecture and afternoons are devoted to performing the associated lab procedures. While actual patient samples are used for testing, students are not responsible for releasing results to physicians.

The last five months of the year are spent in one of several clinical laboratories working one-on-one with a practicing technologist. During this time students are exposed to the day-to-day operations of a fully functioning laboratory.
