Biography
Dr. Malek was a first-generation college student and is originally from Vermont. She has been at the University of Connecticut since 2003 where she completed her B.S. from Allied Health Sciences and a clinical board certification in Cytotechnology. While working in cancer diagnostics at a cytopathology lab, she continued her education at UConn by earning a M.S. in Health Promotion from Allied Health Sciences followed by a Ph.D. in Pathology from the department of Pathobiology and Veterinary Sciences. Her research interests include immunopathology, cancer prevention, diagnostics and treatment, and the use of Next Generation Sequencing and bioinformatics for vaccine development, immunotherapies, and assessment of the host response. She primarily teaches undergraduate courses in research methods and also advises undergraduates, honors students, and graduate students.
