Program Completion
In both of the Coordinated Programs, monitoring student performance and documenting all supervised practice hours are critical to maintaining program success.
Undergraduate and Graduate Program Monitoring
- Grades are reviewed at the conclusion of each semester to ensure that students are able to continue in the program. Students must demonstrate a "C" (73% or higher) or better mastery in Dietetics coursework throughout the program's two academic years and externship. If this requirement is not maintained, students will be counseled to withdraw from the program. Students in the Graduate Program must meet Graduate School requirements.
- Students must meet a minimum of "beginner or competent" in all clinical, community/counseling, food service, and research rotations during their final academic semester and their externship experience. It is expected that students will be competent in most areas as they progress through supervised practice. In order to complete the program, students must be evaluated as "competent for entry-level practice" in each area of practice. "Competent" is defined as follows: demonstrates sound knowledge and effective use of entry-level skills, seeks assistance after investigating potential solutions.
- Students must abide by all requirements of assigned supervised practice sites and track their supervised practice hours to meet program requirements.
- Retention and Remediation Policy
- The UConn Center for Students with Disabilities may be able to assist students who are struggling to meet program requirements. If a student has any issues or learning difficulties in a course, s/he is strongly encouraged to inform the instructor and the Program Director. The program will try to find a tutor for the student (the student may incur an additional cost for tutoring services).
Undergraduate and Graduate Program Monitoring
Verification Statements of completion are issued to all students who have satisfactorily met the requirements of the Coordinated Program and have a Masters’s degree. University of Connecticut Master’s degree requirements must be met to receive a degree.
These requirements include:
- Students must demonstrate a “C” (73 or higher) or better mastery in Dietetics coursework during the program’s two years and externship. An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher is required by the Graduate School.
- Meet a minimum of ‘beginner or competent’ in all clinical, community/counseling, food service, and research rotations during the final spring semester and Externship. It is expected that the student will be competent in most areas as he/she progresses through supervised practice. Competent is defined as: demonstrates sound knowledge and effective use of entry level skills; seeks assistance after investigating potential solutions.
- Formal documented evaluations of performance will be reviewed with the student at the completion of rotations. These evaluations become a part of the permanent student file. Students have the right to review the file at another time.
- The Externship must be completed prior to a verification statement being issued.
- Students must complete the program within 150% of the of the standard length (within 4.62 academic years for the 4+1 FastTrack Dietetics B.S./Health Promotion Sciences M.S. and 3.165 academic years for the Graduate Coordinated Program)
- If the student has a Bachelor’s degree, an official transcript from that college or university must be given to the Dietetics Director.
