Biography
Paul Bureau, MS, CIH, is an Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Allied Health Sciences on UConn’s Storrs campus, currently teaching AH 3574: Ergonomics. Paul is a former Lecturer and Academic Advisor for the Department of Allied Health Sciences, was the Program Director of UConn’s undergraduate Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety Concentration (OEHS) and the post-baccalaureate Online Occupational Safety and Health Certificate Program. Paul earned a Master of Science in Industrial Hygiene from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and a Master of Science in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). His undergraduate degree is in Biological Sciences from the University of Connecticut. He is certified by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene.
A practitioner, as well as an academic, Mr. Bureau has 40 years of experience working in occupational health and safety. His field of specialty is industrial hygiene and he earned board certification as a certified industrial hygienist (CIH) in 1983. He has extensive experience in industrial hygiene, occupational safety, ergonomics, indoor air quality and worker’s compensation management. As a safety management specialist in the worker’s compensation instance sector, he has industry experience in manufacturing, construction, ship building, construction and repair, and a wide variety of workplaces associated with his duties.
Paul has held managerial positions with General Dynamics Electric Boat Corporation, United Technologies Corporation, and Maine Employers Mutual Insurance Company (MEMIC). While at United Technologies, he conducted workplace risk assessments and provided education and training to personnel in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Western Europe, Asia, Australia, and India, in addition to performing other duties.
