Biography
Paula Kalksma McDowell is a Lecturer and Academic Advisor in the Department of Allied Health Sciences. She completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Delaware (B.A. in English, B.S. Health Behavior Science; M.S. in Health Promotion). During Paula’s graduate studies, she had a fellowship with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. She worked on policy development and implementation of the Healthy People 2020 initiatives and disseminating health communication resources, such as technology application development, social determinants of health, and health equity projects across HHS and the general public. Paula has extensive experience in both teaching and advising as a former instructor at Rowan University and as program director for a college access education non-profit. She is committed to supporting students, ensuring that they overcome obstacles, succeed, and thrive. Prior to this role, Paula worked on UConn’s Student Health and Wellness’s Health Promotion team.
